Residential tiling

Bathrooms, kitchens and floors

The bulk of our work: renovations and new builds where the tiling has to survive daily water, heat and traffic without moving.

Bathrooms & wet-area waterproofing

Full bathroom, ensuite and laundry tiling with the waterproofing done by the same crew that tiles over it, so nobody is guessing where a membrane finishes.

  • Bond breakers and reinforcing at floor-to-wall junctions, hobs and penetrations
  • Screeds set to fall so water reaches the waste rather than the door
  • Shower niches, benches and hobs formed, sealed and tiled
  • Full membrane cure time before any tile is laid
  • Silicone to movement junctions, colour matched to the grout

Kitchen & laundry splashbacks

Splashbacks are almost entirely cutting: around power points, taps, rangehoods, window reveals and the return at the end of a bench.

  • Subway, mosaic, herringbone, stack-bond and slab-look porcelain
  • Full-height splashbacks to the underside of overhead cabinets
  • Holes cut for GPOs and services, edges finished with trim or mitre
  • Setout balanced so the joint lines relate to the window and cooktop

Large-format & plank floors

Big tiles magnify every hollow in a slab. We measure the deviation first and correct the substrate rather than packing it out with adhesive.

  • Self-levelling compound or screed to bring the floor within tolerance
  • Levelling clip systems to control lippage across long edges
  • Perimeter and intermediate movement joints allowed for
  • Timber-look plank set out with the correct offset for the format
  • Tiling over compliant heated-floor systems

Natural stone & feature work

Marble, travertine, limestone, bluestone and terrazzo — porous materials that need sealing and a laying sequence chosen for the veining.

  • Dry-laid and numbered on site for vein and shade match
  • Pre-sealed before grouting to stop staining and picture framing
  • White or rapid-set adhesives selected for translucent stone
  • Mitred external corners and shadow-line details
  • Honing, resealing and maintenance advice on handover
Outdoor & commercial

Work that has to take weather or traffic

External and commercial tiling fails differently to a bathroom — through water ingress at the edges, thermal movement and slip performance rather than through leaks.

Alfresco, balconies & pool surrounds

External-grade porcelain and pavers laid to fall, with the waterproofing and drainage detailed before the surface goes on.

  • Falls to spitters, grates and strip drains set in the screed
  • Slip-resistant and textured finishes for wet external areas
  • Wider movement joints for surfaces exposed to full sun
  • Pedestal and paver systems over membranes where access is needed
  • Step treads, nosings and coping edges

Commercial fit-out tiling

Retail, hospitality, childcare, medical and aged-care tiling, planned around the other trades and around the hours the space has to stay open.

  • Commercial kitchen and amenity floors with coved skirtings
  • Slip-rated selections for back-of-house and entry areas
  • Stair nosings, thresholds and tactile-indicator interfaces
  • Staged and out-of-hours work to keep a space trading
  • Progress claims and site inductions handled as required

Screeding & substrate preparation

The stage that decides whether the tiling lasts. Available on its own if another contractor is doing the tiling.

  • Sand-and-cement screeds and self-levelling compounds
  • Grinding back adhesive, paint and old bed material
  • Priming and sealing porous or dusty substrates
  • Sheeting checked and refixed where movement is found
  • Falls formed to wastes, grates and thresholds

Repairs, regrouting & resealing

Targeted work on tiling that is mostly sound: failed grout, drummy tiles, mouldy silicone and stone that has lost its seal.

  • Drummy and cracked tiles lifted and replaced
  • Old grout raked out and replaced with a matched colour
  • Wet-area junctions re-siliconed after removal and sterilising
  • Natural stone cleaned, honed where needed and resealed
  • Assessment of whether a repair or a re-tile is the honest answer

Item 01

Preparation

Strip-out, disposal, grinding, priming, screeding or self-levelling — with the depth and area allowed for stated.

Item 02

Waterproofing

The membrane system, the areas covered, the junction detailing and the cure time built into the program.

Item 03

Tiling

Rate per square metre by area and format, the setout agreed, trims and edge details, and the grout and silicone selections.

Item 04

Exclusions

What we are not doing — plumbing, electrical, glazing, tile supply if you are buying it — written down rather than assumed.
